no direction home

There are moments and happenings that suggest that we are not actively

journeying through life as we might think. But rather, that we are still while life

flows on around us, driven by its own agendas. It’s like in the old movies. The

ones where we see the actors in a car motoring merrily onwards to the next

scene. Except of course, they are not really moving at all – the motion we see

through their rear glass is an illusion created by camera trickery. Bluescreen

or something to that effect. This perspective is sometimes unsettling. We like

to think we write, act and direct our own lives. But sometimes it is soothing –

we can just sit back, relax and not enjoy the ride.

A Lie

Jealousy, fear and insecurity
Manifest at the most unlikely time-
As I am about to step into my bath,
Smell a perfume
That I know does not belong to me
So – I smoke a cigarette
Enjoy the deep satisfaction
Of the inhalation

When my husband comes home
The smell of smoke still lingers
‘Honey, have you been smoking?’
‘I don’t smoke.’ I reply, quietly.
Unplug the bath, watch the water
After all, one lie deserves another.

The Netherlands

Just back from a week’s trip to the Netherlands. Things I loved most were:

  • the unbelievable light (now I have seen first hand what Rembrant and Van Meer captured so beautifully on canvas)
  • biking everywhere and anywhere
  • herring, cheese and chocolate
  • the lovely dutch who entertained us so beautifully
  • the lovely sri lankans with the most gorgeous flat and the amazing kiribath brunch-perfect after a night of debauchery.
  • our most kind and generous host.
  • What I do not like:

  • The fact that I forgot my camera. very very frustrating, not to be able to take pictures.
  • that i have five pounds to loose around my midsection
