The Sri Lankans: A Portrait of a Developing Nation

Book launch and exhibition of portrait photography by Martin Pieris at the Barefoot Gallery on Thursday, February 8th at 7:00pm. The Sri Lankans: A Portrait of a Developing Nation will be available at a special price of Rs. 3000/-.

“A delightful book of photographic portraits, personal interviews and eassys(2001-2006) exploring biographies and influences of individuals who have contributed to the social and cultural development of Sri Lanka. The personalities featured in the book are a random selection chosen by Martin Pieris due to chance meetings with individuals who have made a mark on sri lankan society in their novel way. It is in no way a comprehensive list, nor a critique of publc standing or ability. It contain’s only Martin’s personal perspective and experiences as a photgrapher.”

“I was convinced that Ceylon is the cradle of the human race because everybody there looks an original. All other nations are obviously mass produced.”

  1. I would like very much to order a few copies. I would like to give to Sri Lankan friends. Unfortunately, I was in Colombo at the Galle Face, but did not make the event. I am now back in the USA.
